Bench Project at the Munnings MuseumProject by Tim GermainYear: 2021Cost: £7,000the bench design was workshopped with the Museum’s associated artists and the local community and it reflects the S-bend in the River Stour that is often visited by the Museum’s sketching groupsthe galvanised steel frame should last at least 40 years and the oak should outlive it as it is designed to easily air-drythe social distancing imposed by Covid leads to this being a love seat with built-in separationthe galvanised steel sub-frame allows the sinuous shape of the river to be copiedthe local, eco-friendly, needs-must felled english oak from Ipswich’s parks was supplied by the Greenways Countrywide Projectthe bench was part-funded by the Arts Council’s COVID fund and the inset red marbles are a gentle reminder of the virus’ red prongs. Funding also came from the Dedham Vale AONB.
