the existing bannister rail in this attic conversion was a death trap but, instead of just replacing it, i made a double-sided bookcase with a wide top to display books ……. visually more interesting and it holds more books, toothe bookcases are fully adjustable, made in varying heights and depths, with a special tall compartment for an enormous atlasand yes, you can reach all the books on the stair side, although you might have to stand on tippy-toe if you’re small
