three of the bookcases shelves sit on central steel pivots and tip when the balance is disturbed by adding/removing a book…… sending the marbles running along the length of the shelf
pins inserted into the ends of the shelves keep the shelves from tipping too far
the central pivoting bracket is steel for strength
