the black lines in the spalted beech top show the line of advance of the rot before the timber was dried and the rot stopped. While not rigid enough for, say, a table leg, the timber is still plenty strong enough for a table-top and stunningly beautiful, to boot.the X-frame base keep the table legs out of the way of diners while also giving extra knee-room, meaning 8 people can comfortably be accommodated. The groove round the edge of the table comes in handy when a glass of red wine is spilt…… and feels lovely, too.the spalted beech and english oak are finished in clear, hard-wearing varnish that leaves the timber as near as possible to its natural light tones
